WE ARE

Sarah and Barrie Welcome you.

Cherry Tree Self-Catering Holiday Cottage is located in Canworthy Water, Launceston, Cornwall., just 7-miles inland from North Cornwall’s rugged and awe inspiring Coastline and the Sea at Crackington Haven. It’s situated next to our house and in-door pool in a beautiful Cornish rural setting on our 34 acre smallholding.

We purchased Carn House (our home) and Cherry Tree Cottage, in 2007 but didn’t move to Cornwall until September 2010. Between 2007 and 2010 both were let on yearly leases. During that time, we continued to live in our former home in Chappel Row, Newbury, Berkshire. Barrie continued to run their successful company until its sale and his early retirement in 2008 and Sarah’s later retirement from a leading firm of accountants in 2010. Having made the decision to retire, the next move was to uproot and move to Cornwall.

Having decided the pool house didn’t meet with the high standards we’d set for the holiday Cottage, we took the decision to employ a group of local trades people and in November 2011 we closed the pool and games room and embarked on a major facelift. The old pool house was demolished and the current Green Oak Framed pool house, changing room and relaxation area gradually evolved, and was finally completed in April 2012.

We are very proud of our pool area and generally get a WOW! reaction from guests who have made use of it. See more about our pool under Cornwall life’s article “Under the Arches” listed separately on this site.

The Cottage is sited next to our house, and is on our 34-acre working Smallholding in the hamlet of Canworthy. Our smallholding compliments our Cottage by offering visits (by arrangement) to see our animal etc. We have sold our Stallions and so no longer breed foals, but we still have Buddy and two mares who are forever homed at our stables across the road. But we still have Lambs (during the Spring & Summer) from our Southdown Sheep flock, Ducklings from our Call-ducks and Chicks from our rare-breed Chickens. The Chickens also provide especially in the Spring and Summer months an abundance of eggs that are collected daily and are available for purchase from Sarah.

With the current concerns about the Bee population, we decided along with our neighbours in late 2016 to venture into Bee Keeping and as of April 2017, we have a few hives that are sited in our starvation paddock but far enough away so that guests will not be affected. The Bees produce local honey and we may have some of Penny’s (neighbour and textile artist etc) candles these should be available for purchase throughout the year, subject to honey yield and wax supplies?

We hope you will enjoy your stay in Cornwall and with us and take home some wonderful memories that will entice you to come back and see us again.

With that in mind and because guests have liked the pictures already on the Cottage walls, we decided to enlarge and frame some more photos and make them available for sale. So, if you are interested in any of them, please let us know.
